NHA Certification Exam Process

016695918_ECGIn order to receive a certification within the healthcare field you will need to pass the NHA (National Healthcare Association) Certification Exam for each certification that you have received training for. With each certification you earn the necessary credentials that allow you to use your name, NHA (National Healthcare Association) personal Certification ID Card and your NHA (National Healthcare Association) Certificate.

To be eligible to take a NHA (National Healthcare Association) Certification Exam and earn a Certificate your must:

  • Have your GED or high school diploma. If you are about to graduate from a program, it is possible to receive your Provisional Certification if:
  • You can sit for the NHA (National Healthcare Association) Certification Exam twelve months before your graduation from a GED or accredited High School program.


Things to keep in mind when getting a Provisional Certificate:

  • Your Provisional Certificate will expire after 12 months from your test date unless you have submitted evidence of your GED or High School Diploma.
  • A Provisional Certificate requires all the continuing education of a full Certification.
  • A Provisional Certificate and wallet ID card are marked “Provisional”.
  • A Provisional Certificate can’t be renewed or reinstated.
  • There are no age requirements to take the NHA (National Healthcare Association) Certification Exam unless you are taking the CPhT Certification Exam and than you must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must complete a certified training program or complete one year of experienced work in the field associated with the certificate you wish to acquire.
  • Candidates for each Certification Exam may be required to provide evidence of training or work experience.
  • Each Certification Program may have additional requirements.

Enrolling in a Certificate Program at a NHA (National Healthcare Association) affiliated school affords you:

  • Your affiliated NHA (National Healthcare Association) school coordinates your exam date and directions with the NHA (National Healthcare Association).
  • Pre-register for your NHA (National Healthcare Association) Exam by creating an online account with the NHA.
  • You can take your NHA (National Healthcare Association) Certification Exam at your school at a specified date and time.
  • When your school provides a testing date, log in to your NHA (National Healthcare Association) online account to get registration confirmation.
  • Your NHA (National Healthcare Association) Certification computer based exam are immediately available.
  • When you pass your computer based written exam, you will receive your wallet ID Certification Card and your NHA (National Healthcare Association) Certificate will follow your ID Card within 5 to 7 business days of exam date.
  • When you pass your paper/pencil written exam that is in text booklet form, notification will be mailed within 5 to 7 business days after they receive your test booklet.
  • NHA (National Healthcare Association) Certification remains valid for the next two years after passing your exam.
  • Maintaining your certification is accomplished when you complete ten continuing education credits within a two years period and complete your recertification process.

While working in a certification area (minimum one year) or you are not enrolled in a school affiliated with the NHA (National Healthcare Association) you need to know this:

  • Pre-register online for your Certification Exam by creating an online account with the NHA (National Healthcare Association).
  • Log into your online NHA (National Healthcare Association) account, select the apply button and complete the process for scheduling your exam.
  • Take your NHA (National Healthcare Association) Exam at 600 possible PSI Testing Centers in the United States (view the testing online).
  • After you have completed the online check out, you will receive a confirmation email giving you instructions regarding your testing location, date and time.
  • You can sign into your online NHA (National Healthcare Association) account and find your exam results within 24 to 48 hours of your exam.
  • When you pass your paper/pencil exam that is in text booklet form, you will receive notification by mail within 5 to 7 business days after they receive your text booklet.
  • Your NHA (National Healthcare Association) Certification will be valid for two full years.
  • Every two years complete ten continuing education credits and your recertification process in order to maintain your certification.
